G. Allen Brooks

G. Allen Brooks has spent 55 years in the energy and investment industries as an energy securities analyst, an oilfield service company executive, a consultant to energy company management and the Federal government, and a member of the board of directors of multiple oilfield service companies. From 2005-2023, Brooks was an advisor to PPHB LP, a Houston-based boutique oilfield service investment banking firm. There, he published his highly regarded energy newsletter, Musings From the Oil Patch, and provided proprietary research for the firm's partners.Brooks headed the oilfield service equity research team at CIBC World Markets for eight years and, before that, was with New Orleans-based energy research firm Howard Weil for four years. In the early 1990s, during its formative years, Mr. Brooks was a member of the senior management team of ENSCO International, an international offshore contract drilling company.Brooks currently publishes Energy Musings, a newsletter that ranges across the global energy space to educate and enlighten readers about topical energy issues. He began his investment career in 1969; he is an Economics graduate of the University of Connecticut and has an M.S. in Economics from Cornell University. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1975.

G. Allen Brooks is a veteran shipping expert with a background in oil and energy security. For over 55 years, he has worked in the energy and investment industries, serving in various roles such as an energy securities analyst, an oilfield service company executive, a consultant to energy company management and the federal government, and a board member of multiple oilfield service companies.

Most recently, Brooks was an advisor to PPHB LP, a Houston-based boutique oilfield service investment banking firm. There, he published his highly regarded energy newsletter, Musings from an Oil Patch, and provided proprietary research for the firm’s partners.

Brooks, considered a “Wall Street All-Star,” headed the oilfield service equity research team at CIBC World Markets for eight years and, before that, was with the New Orleans-based energy research firm Howard Weil for four years. In the early 1990s, during its formative years, Brooks was a member of the senior management team of ENSCO International, an international offshore contract drilling company. Brooks is a member of the board of directors for various Canadian-based oilfield service companies, as well as a contributor of the energy column for the Maritime Executive magazine, http://workboat.com/, and http://oilpro.com/.

In these roles, he produced research used by institutional investors to evaluate energy companies and predict developments in the global oil markets. His work is widely read; most recently, he has focused on the effects of geopolitics and current events on the oil and energy markets, climate policy, and energy-related trade relations.

Brooks currently publishes Energy Musings, a newsletter that ranges across the global energy space to educate and enlighten readers about current energy issues.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Connecticut and an M.S. in economics from Cornell University. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1975.
